Write for EU DataWatch
EU DataWatch welcomes guest contributions, analytical essays, and reasoned policy commentaries from legal scholars, data protection officers, software architects, cybersecurity researchers, and civil society advocates. Our guest platform provides a high-level forum for serious intellectual debate regarding European digital sovereignty, algorithmic regulation, privacy jurisprudence, and platform accountability.
We seek original, incisive, and evidence-grounded writing that advances the public discourse. Writing for EU DataWatch offers contributors the opportunity to engage a sophisticated international audience of regulators, judges, corporate compliance leaders, technologists, and public policy practitioners across the European Union and globally.
Editorial Subjects
We actively solicit contributions across our core analytical pillars, including: Critical interpretations of CJEU data protection rulings and national DPA enforcement orders; Architectural analyses of AI compliance under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act; Empirical evaluations of gatekeeper conduct under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA); Cybersecurity risk models under the NIS2 Directive and Cyber Resilience Act; Industrial data sharing models under the European Data Act and Data Governance Act; and Fundamental digital rights, biometric surveillance limits, and digital identity frameworks (eIDAS).
Suitable Formats
Guest submissions typically fall into two primary formats:
Policy Analysis & Technical Explainers (1,200 to 2,500 words): Deep analytical examinations of specific regulatory frameworks, compliance architectures, or technical privacy mechanisms, supported by statutory citations and empirical evidence.
Perspectives & Op-Eds (800 to 1,500 words): Well-reasoned, persuasive opinion essays addressing a controversial or timely question in European digital policy, articulating a clear, defensible thesis backed by evidence.
Pitch First
To save valuable time and ensure editorial alignment, we strongly encourage potential contributors to submit a structured pitch before drafting a full manuscript. A successful pitch must include: A concise working title and central thesis; A bullet-pointed outline summarizing the core arguments and primary evidence; An explanation of why the topic is urgent and relevant to our European audience; and The author’s professional credentials, institutional affiliations, and relevant publications.
Pitches should be sent via email to contributors@eudatawatch.com with the subject line ‘Pitch: [Proposed Title]’.
Editorial Fit
We look for contributions that demonstrate deep subject-matter expertise, intellectual originality, and practical relevance. We favor articles that move beyond introductory summaries to offer concrete legal analysis, critique institutional mechanisms, or propose actionable regulatory solutions.
Writers should assume an informed readership that understands basic concepts of European law and digital technology, avoiding unnecessary generic explanations.
Material EU DataWatch Does Not Accept
EU DataWatch strictly rejects several categories of submissions: We do not accept promotional advertorials, corporate white papers masquerading as journalism, product pitch articles, or public relations copy. We reject articles authored on behalf of undisclosed commercial clients or corporate lobbying coalitions.
Furthermore, we reject partisan campaign manifestos, unsubstantiated personal attacks, and superficial summaries of existing news that offer no original analytical value.
Identity and Biography
Guest authors must write under their real, authenticated legal names. Every guest submission must include a high-resolution headshot photograph and a concise professional biography (50 to 80 words) detailing current professional titles, academic affiliations, and relevant institutional roles.
We do not accept submissions from anonymous authors, pseudonyms, or corporate entities.
Originality and Publication History
Submissions must be 100% original and unpublished. We do not accept articles that have appeared on personal blogs, corporate websites, LinkedIn newsletters, or other media platforms. Authors must confirm that the submission is not concurrently under review with any other publication.
Evidence and Sources
Guest articles must meet our rigorous evidentiary standards. All factual assertions, statistics, regulatory references, and direct quotations must be hyperlinked directly to primary sources (e.g., official Eur-Lex texts, CJEU Curia records, academic journals, or audited securities filings). Footnotes may be converted to inline hyperlinks by our editorial team.
Interviews and Quotations
If a guest article includes direct quotations from third parties, the author must confirm that the statements were obtained directly on the record, with explicit permission for publication, and provide contact details or transcripts upon editorial request.
Right of Reply
If a guest submission levels specific allegations of wrongdoing, regulatory violation, or commercial misconduct against named individuals, corporate entities, or public bodies, our editorial staff will require that the affected parties be provided a fair, formal pre-publication right of reply.
Conflicts and Commercial Relationships
Guest authors must disclose any material conflict of interest, paid consultancy, corporate retainership, or legal representation that relates to the companies, products, or regulatory proceedings discussed in the article.
Mandatory disclosures will be published alongside the author biography to ensure complete transparency for our readers.
Commercial Submissions
Submissions prepared by public relations agencies, commercial brand representatives, or corporate marketing teams seeking commercial exposure must be directed to our commercial department at advertising@eudatawatch.com for consideration as clearly labeled Sponsored Content. Commercial pitches submitted to the editorial desk will be rejected.
Backlinks and Link Placement
We enforce strict anti-spam linking rules. Guest authors may not insert commercial tracking backlinks, affiliate referral codes, or paid SEO anchor links into their submissions. Hyperlinks are evaluated strictly for their editorial and evidentiary value to readers. Our editors reserve the right to remove any promotional or irrelevant links.
Artificial Intelligence
Guest contributors must adhere strictly to our AI policy. Submissions generated by automated generative AI software (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or other LLMs) will be rejected immediately upon discovery, and the author will be permanently barred from contributing to EU DataWatch.
Images and Rights
If a guest author provides charts, infographics, or photographs to accompany their article, they must warrant that they own the intellectual property rights or possess a verifiable Creative Commons license for commercial publication.
Length and Style
Articles should be written in clear, precise, and authoritative English. We favor active voice, concise paragraphs, and logical structural subheadings. Technical acronyms (e.g., DMA, DSA, NIS2, EDPB) must be defined upon first mention.
Editorial Process
Accepted drafts undergo comprehensive editing by our regulatory and copy desks. Editors may suggest structural revisions, request additional evidentiary citations, or adjust phrasing to conform with our house style. Authors will have the opportunity to review editorial changes prior to publication.
Payment and Rights
Unsolicited guest op-eds and academic policy commentaries are generally published on a voluntary, non-remunerated basis as a contribution to public debate. In exchange, authors receive prominent global exposure, authenticated author profile archives, and syndication reach. Specially commissioned investigative essays may receive professional honorariums under separate written agreement.
Timing and Post-Publication Responsibility
Publication dates are scheduled at the sole discretion of the editorial desk. Following publication, authors are encouraged to engage with reader feedback and assist our team in resolving any legitimate correction requests.
